The Beschorneria Yuccoides is a spectacular succulent plant. Characterised by rosettes of broad, sword shaped, slightly fleshy grey-green leaves which have soft tips. Clump forming, they typically reach around 4-6ft in height producing impressive arching flower spikes of red and green flowers.
Belonging to the same sub family of plants which include Agaves and Yuccas. Common name of the Mexican Lily, this exotic looking plant is quite rare in cultivation.
Half hardy perennial, it will need protection in winter, although has done well in coastal and sheltered urban positions. Alternatively it makes an ideal container plant which can be moved into a sheltered position through severe cold. Low maintenance it is also tolerant of drought and wind

Sowing; For best results, sow immediately onto a good soil-based compost. Cover the seeds with fine grit or compost to approximately their own depth. They can be sown at any time, and germination can sometimes be quicker if kept at 15 to 20 degrees C. We sow most seeds in an unheated greenhouse and wait for natural germination, as many seeds have built-in dormancy mechanisms, often waiting for natural spring germination, hence giving them a full season of growth.
