Surely a hardy annual plant that needs no introduction. Worthy of a place in any garden and a favourite for children to grow. Incidentally, an ideal plant to grow in a large clump at the foot of large trees or near the edge of a pool. They are surprisingly tolerant of partial shade. There are now also plenty of varieties that are great for cutting - big and dramatic and, of particular interest to the writer - no skill required for arranging! Just stick them in a (large) vase. The traditional Sunflower usually grown in children's' competitions. 2-3m.

Once you plant your seeds, you'll need to be patient. They usually take between seventy-five to ninety days to grow. Start them inside or plant them right where you want them to be. Those who plant their seeds inside should be careful that they don't get root-bound. Once they are ready to be transplanted where you want them to grow during the summer months, you should plant them two to three feet from each other.

You should know that birds and squirrels enjoy eating these seeds, so you'll need to pay attention in order to keep them safe from these adorable predators. After you plant them, we recommend placing screens over them, in order to stop pests from digging them up.

    Tips for Growing Gorgeous Flowers

These sunflowers should be cultivated where they will receive full sunlight. Soil conditions may vary from rich to average, so they are appropriate for a lot of gardens. Rich soil will boost the chances of optimal growth. As well, make certain that drainage for your soil is superb. You should dig two to three feet down before planting. Then, add soil, manure and compost in layers.

As well, you should fertilize on a regular basis. The best option is a fertilizer with a high level of nitrogen. In terms of watering, make sure that irrigation goes right down to the roots. Don't let the soil get dry and don't soak it.

Also, you should stake your blooms. These plants weigh a lot and they should be held in place so they won't topple when winds get high.
