Echinocereus websterianus is a species of the genus Echinocereus of the cactus family Cactaceae. The specific epithet websterianus honours the American philanthropist Gertrude D. Webster (1872-1947), who was one of the main sponsors of the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix.
Echinocereus websterianus usually grows richly branched with up to 50 shoots that form groups of up to 60 centimetres in diameter. The cylindrical shoots are 40 to 60 inches long and have a diameter of up to 8 centimetres. There are 18 to 24 ribs. The golden yellow thorns turn brown in age and have a length of up to 1 centimetre. The six to eight central spines are spangled and the 14 to 18 spines are spread.
The funnel-shaped flowers are light to deep pink and have a white throat. They appear near the shoot tips, are up to 6 inches long and reach diameters of 3 to 4 centimetres. The egg-shaped fruits are light green and contain white flesh. They are 3.5 inches long and have a diameter of 1.5 centimetres.

This cactus is cultivated and highly prized for its flowers and tall columnar gold spine stems. It is among the easiest species to grow, flower and propagate but a slow grower. Water regularly from March to October. Rot prone in winter, it needs good drainage. It prefers a deep pot. It is though, a holy terror when you attempt to repot it, even the slightest touch seems to break off the spine clusters, a very difficult issue to avoid if you are moving a larger plant!
Unfortunately, this tendency also permanently marks the plant and be aware that such faults are not necessarily due to poor cultivation! But in the greenhouse we will normally cut it and re-root its top when it gets too long. The base, of course, will produce more pups which can also be taken and re-rooted. It requires strong sunlight to maintain a healthy appearance, and a harsh "dry and cool" winter environment combined with maximum light exposure enhances spring flower production. Avoid freezing temperature (But hardy to -5° C for short periods).
