You may direct sow in Autumn just below the soil surface, compact the soil slightly and allow the natural winter cold to offer ideal conditions for germination to occur in the Spring, as the weather warms.  But you can also sow indoors in Spring, mix seed with moist sand and place in the fridge, 4°C for 2 months. Remove and surface sow onto very wet compost, your ideal tempemperature to aim for is between 15-18°C, if you can keep to this range then you might be rewarded with germination in a few weeks. However, it can be erratic and take much longer, so have some patience and don't discard your seed tray prematurely.

Marsh Marigold prefers an exposed, open site in rich, boggy soil in Full Sun so it's ideal for pond or steam edges, be warned it may not flower for 2-3 years after sowing. Cut back after flowering to encourage further blooms, this will colonise an area if allowed to.
